Members who join the board play a pivotal role in guiding REPTA’s strategic direction, ensuring it aligns with the evolving needs and challenges of our industry. Your expertise and firsthand experience in the reptile and exotic pet sector make you an invaluable asset in informing decisions that impact the entire community.

To express your interest in joining the board, simply submit your application to the chairperson for consideration. We will review applicants at our quarterly meetings. Your commitment to driving positive change and shaping the future of the industry is not only welcomed but highly encouraged. By actively participating in board activities, you become an integral part of a community that actively seeks to elevate the standards and success of the reptile and exotic pet trade. As a board member you will be expected to attend quarterly meetings, potentially held at various locations around the UK. There will also be online meetings and group calls. Any board members joining will take on an unpaid voluntary role.

  • Hold a senior position in a company that is a REPTA member.
  • Observe the REPTA Code of Conduct for board members (see below)

Code of Conduct (for board members)

  1. Commitment to REPTA’s Mission

All working members and voting members shall uphold and actively support the mission, vision, and objectives of REPTA to promote and protect the interests of the reptile and exotic pet trade industry.

  1. Ethical Conduct

Members shall conduct themselves with integrity, honesty, and fairness in all professional and personal interactions related to REPTA. Avoid any behaviour that may damage the association’s reputation or cause harm to its members or stakeholders.

  1. Confidentiality

Respect and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information, including but not limited to internal discussions, member data, and proprietary information. Do not disclose or share confidential information without proper authorization.

  1. Conflict of Interest

Promptly disclose any potential or actual conflicts of interest that may arise in matters before the board and follow established conflict of interest procedures to mitigate such conflicts.

  1. Respect and Collaboration

Treat all members, stakeholders, and colleagues with respect and professionalism, regardless of differences in opinion or perspective. Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where diverse viewpoints are valued.

  1. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing REPTA.

  1. Transparency and Accountability

Maintain transparency in all actions and decisions related to REPTA’s governance and operations. Be accountable for one’s actions and responsibilities as a member.

  1. Responsible Communication

Exercise responsible communication when representing REPTA. Avoid making unsubstantiated claims and communicate accurate and truthful information to the public and fellow members.

  1. Avoiding Discrimination and Harassment

REPTA is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members. Discrimination, harassment, or any form of disrespectful behaviour based on race, gender, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, or other characteristics will not be tolerated.

  1. Duty to the Association

Members have a duty to act in the best interests of REPTA. They should actively participate in meetings, fulfil their roles and responsibilities, and work collaboratively to achieve the association’s goals.

  1. Resolving Conflicts

In the event of disputes or conflicts, members shall seek resolution through respectful and constructive dialogue and, if necessary, follow established grievance procedures outlined in REPTA’s policies.

  1. Reporting Violations

Members who become aware of violations of this Code of Conduct should promptly report them to the Chairman or the appropriate board authority. Reports will be handled confidentially and with due diligence.

  1. Adherence to the Code

All members of REPTA shall acknowledge and adhere to this Code of Conduct. Failure to comply with this Code may result in disciplinary action, including potential removal from the board or membership.

By adhering to this Code of Conduct, working members and voting members of REPTA contribute to a positive and professional environment that fosters trust, cooperation, and the achievement of the association’s mission and objectives.
